Performing within the field of house music, Durban-born Black Coffee is an outstanding DJ and producer who has proven to be a successful brand on the international party DJ list. Rising from the streets of South Africa, Nkosinathi Maphumulo, a.k.a. Black Coffee, is highly popular among the clubbers due to his smashing tracks and hit remixes that have dominated the airwaves of many major parties in recent years.
This majestic producer and DJ started his journey back in school as part of a musical ensemble, where he learned the keyboard.
In order to deepen his musical intellect, he studied music in Durban, which gave him the opportunity to develop his listening skills and further advance his knowledge of music theory. While studying music, he formed his own band Shana, and recorded and released 4 albums.
After being offered a spot at various clubs, Black Coffee secured a residency at the Voodoo Lounge nightclub, which was a big deal back in 2001. His career jump started in 2003, when he was chosen as one of only two South African participants in the Red Bull Music Academy. After this, he was allotted prime weekend dance slots at Umhlobo Wenene, a show that features the most exotic DJs on South African radio.
Since 2007, Black Coffee holds the prestige of being the first-ever resident at Hï Ibiza, where he continues to integrate clubbing with South African beats in a beautiful way. Black Coffee never fails to present its crowd with an out of this world party experience each week and has announced his much awaited return to Playa d’en Bossa every Saturday night at Hï Ibiza in 2023.
Catch Black Coffee playing every Saturday from 27 May – 30 September, 2023 at Hi Ibiza. Black Coffee is often supported by a line-up of his fellow countrymen such as Themba, Culoe de Song and Da Capo, alongside scene dignitaries like DJ Tennis, Loco Dice, The Blessed Madonna and Jamie Jones.
We are certain that Black Coffee will return to Ibiza in 2024 for another successful residency. Stay tuned for more info!

In 2015, he turned the heads of many after winning the Breakthrough DJ of the Year Award at the DJ Awards in Ibiza.
His 5 studio albums feature pleasing sonic themes and play-like mixes. Some of his all-time hit tracks include Turn Me On, Superman (feat. Bucie), Juju, You Rock My World (feat. Soulstar), and Black Coffee & David Guetta – Drive (feat. Delilah Montagu).
